CARSON CITY - It was another impressive turnout at the Don Baese Carson City-Crystal Invitational on Saturday at the Fish Creek Sportsman Club.

The invitational is named after former CC-Crystal cross country Coach Don Baese, who was helping out with the event. Baese said there were 104 high schools and 46 middle schools at the event.

Greenville was in the A-B Division and placed 12th for the girls and 14th for the boys.

For the girls, Chelsea Prahl was 39th in 20:42.2; for the boys, Blake Bitner was 47th in 17:23.2 while Tyler Tiffany was 74th in 17:51.9 and Kody Donnelly 81st in 18:01.6.

"We were kind of middle in the pack. We were a little disappointed with that. We expected to do better than that. Our No. 2 runner Zach Caverley was unable to run due to an injury," said boys Co-coach Jim Popma. "Kellie Strandberg, our No. 4 runner, got injured during the race. That hurt us significantly.

"Blake Bitner ran a great race again. Tyler Tiffany continues to impress us. Kody Donnelly also ran a good race. Our JV runners were sixth overall. Matt Pierson did well with an 18:12. His time continues to drop."
